Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) represents the pinnacle of high-purity copper processing. Manufactured through specialized vacuum induction or inert gas protected smelting setups, OFC exhibits an oxygen content lower than 0.001% (10 ppm) and an overall copper purity level reaching at least 99.95% (under C10200 designations) or 99.99% (under C10100 Oxygen-Free Electronic / OFE standards). Unlike conventional Electrolytic Tough Pitch (ETP) copper, which contains residual oxygen in the form of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) inclusions, OFC is immune to hydrogen embrittlement when exposed to reducing atmospheres at elevated working temperatures.

ETP (Electrolytic Tough Pitch) copper contains a small amount of oxygen (typically 200 to 400 ppm) in the form of cuprous oxide. When ETP is exposed to hydrogen at temperatures above 370°C, it suffers from hydrogen embrittlement. OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper) contains less than 10 ppm of oxygen, making it highly resistant to hydrogen embrittlement. This makes OFC the preferred choice for vacuum processes, electronic brazing, and critical electrical components.
Adding tellurium to oxygen-free copper creates tellurium copper (UNS C14500). The copper retains its high electrical and thermal conductivity (roughly 93% to 98% IACS), while the addition of tellurium acts as a chip breaker. This improves the machinability rating from 20% (for pure copper) to 85%, allowing for high-speed machining without excessive tool wear.
Sichuan Kepai conducts raw material screening to trace chemical purity. All our products are compliant with the EU RoHS and REACH directives. Our manufacturing process excludes hazardous elements, and each shipment is accompanied by complete SGS test results and material certificates.
Our in-house quality control utilizes eddy current conductance instruments to verify electrical conductivity, hardness testers for tensile and compressive strength, and metallographic sample polishers to inspect grain structure.
